My life was forever changed when I joined the Shifting the Narrative: A Safe Space for AGYW Health and Rights project supported by Her Voice Fund. Before that, I felt like my voice was silenced, and my questions about my body and future were left unanswered. But participating in Shifting the Narrative project, I found a safe space to discuss girl child health, reproductive health, rights, hygiene, and empowerment.
My name is Nyasha Chabooka and I am a young girl aged 21 from a small town in Mashonaland Central. In my town many girls face challenges in terms of access to reproductive health information, facilities and resources. Through the Her Voice Fund advocacy efforts, I have gained access to healthcare and learned how to speak out for myself and others. I discovered the power of dialogue and the importance of standing up for our rights as girls.
With newfound confidence, I became a leader among my peers, inspiring others to take control of their health, futures, and lives. Shifting the Narrative project has given me a voice, and I am determined to use it to create positive change in my community.
As I look to the future, I know that me and my fellow club members would continue to face challenges. But I also know that we would face them together, as empowered girls who refuse to be silenced. With Her Voice Fund support of Shifting the Narrative project, I can confidently say I have found my strength, and am ready to make a difference in my community.
